Photography - Two Years On

So a lot has happened in a year (about a years worth of stuff actually). I've steadily increased my camera gear and my ability to make pictures that I'd want to actually hang on a wall. I'm more deliberate with my shots. I still make a ton of mistakes, but I am also making more on purpose shots as well. This will probably remain the same every year for a long while.

The need to buy all of the gear has slightly subsided. In that I want something very specific and very expensive . And while I cam within a week of buying a XF 70-300mm lens, I took it into my head to start up a YouTube channel and spent my saved up money on an action camera. I will eventually get myself the nice telephoto lens, but until then I'm continuing to move forward and take photographs in various conditions and with various aims.

I have well and truly been bitten by the walking/climbing bug. My current goal is to climb something truly big. To do that I need to start on a path towards getting more educated and climbing a series of mountains to gain experience. This takes money and that I don't have a lot of so I thought I'd start a YouTube channel. Static photos and moved into moving pictures.

I have also spent a little bit of time looking at portraiture as well which while interesting isn't really where my direction is headed. I did get to throw in a bit of travel photography and I enjoy trying it, so I'll have to keep practicing and seeing what I can get up to.

I've kept up posting my work on Flickr and kept up my weekly posting of photos to Facebook. Those pictures on Facebook continue to get nice comments, but the people seeing those photos are generally friends and family so not a very critical audience.

I also had one of my photographs commended in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of he Year competition. I am still waiting to find out if that photograph made it into the annual publication.

Hopefully by next year, I'll have expanded my experience into videos and can solidly put together a hillwalking video.
